PARK(ing) day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers, and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. Originating in San Francisco in 2005, the idea behind PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, and to make the streets—for a moment—more about community...and fun!

This year, Mishi will be staging a hair intervention at the Morphic parklet by quickly transforming your everyday hairstyle into a braided work of art-- at the Morphic Braid Bar! The parklet will be a stripped down version of the Morphic salon, with fun parking day decor (featuring the Morphic Smart car), free wi-fi, and Mishi’s signature coconut water supply. This PARK(ing) day, we’ll be braiding away with Brenda the Master Braider and documenting each style with photo and video media. There will be great music, and free gifts from Rene Furterer for anyone who posts or tweets about the parklet on the spot! We’ve got to keep that meter running, so feel free to bring a few quarters to keep it fed! Be sure to check out last year's parklet, Flowers In Your Hair on our facebook page!

Come check us out and get your Morphic braid on! We love you guys and can't wait to see you there!

a new life to call my own

I was telling this story today and my client mentioned I should share it on the blog. Here goes!

Before I opened Morphic, I had a job in a salon I was awfully unhappy at.  I had a tyrannical boss who had put me through multiple character assassinating meetings that would leave me literally staggering to my next client. As this hurtful cycle continued, I knew I wasn't where I needed to be. There was so much negativity and discouragement, all brought on by terrible management. It was not an easy place to thrive in my work or even enjoy it.

After careful planning and preparation, I was able to become an entrepreneur by opening my own salon at Sola Studios.  I remember the morning of Januray 26, 2011, getting ready for work on my first day.  It was uniquely a different and joyful experience.  I felt such freedom and liberation, like a heavy collar around my neck had been removed.  It was exhilarating, thinking about my future, my awesome clients, and what my business would look like. How different it would be this time... it had nothing to do with anyone else!  I applied my mascara that morning with so much pride and joy; it was declaring my own greatness.

I consider coming to Sola Studios to open Morphic is one of the best decisions I ever made, second to becoming a hairdresser.  It's a wonderful place for me to thrive.  Every day I come to work, I swipe my keyfob and walk through the door feeling comfortable, confident, and in control.

I am so grateful. Thanks so much to each of you for being on this journey with me! I'm loving every minute.

xo,

Mishi

flea market finds

Flea markets offer a wealth of awesome vintage inspiration... one of my favorite things to do is look through old photos at the flea market for great vintage hairstyles. These two photos are my recent finds- what do you think of them? Would you go for either of these classic vintage hairstyles?

Check out this 70's beauty! Comedienne Vicki Lawrence is sporting her signature short, rounded bob and super thick lashes. Rumor has it Vicki got her start in Hollywood thanks to her Carol Burnett-like looks. She was originally cast as Carol's sister, Thelma Harper, on The Carol Burnett Show, airing from 1967 to 1978. We are loving this snapshot of Vicki's timeless beauty!

How about this artistically articulate dorm room shot? She's gotta get that volume! Extra rollers on top of her short bob style will definitely ensure voluminous, lofty locks for the pep rally! This photo has a great dose of both art and humor. I love it!

amanda's ombre

Amanda came in to see Mishi last week for an update to her ombre style. She's been a client for about a year, and is loving the progression of her beige/blonde tone ombre look! Mishi touched up Amanda's long layers, and did a full ombre style highlight. This look just keeps getting better and better! It's perfect for fall, (or SF summer if you will) and she's loving it already.

Isn't she gorgeous?!

bombshell bangs

If there is one gal with the sexiest bangs, it’s Brigitte Bardot. There is everything to love about her hair style: sultry golden locks, tousled waves and side swept bangs. Today Bardot’s style is iconic and has with it a timelessness that continues to be a part of the everyday modern women.
