Oh, Betty Draper!

Okay, okay...January Jones as Betty Draper, but you get our point. Vintage style dream!

Even at her most questionable moments, we still can't help but shimmy with excitement over every outfit and hairstyle! Her ability to be so put together on a daily basis deserves an award in itself (thanks the Emmy nominated Mad Men hair and wardrobe team!).

In honor of the season 7 premiere of Mad Men, we just had to bestow some tribute on the lovely, Betty Draper, our hair icon.

Lets start with Season 1 and the refined Betty Draper at her best. The earrings, outfit and the hair. Oh! The hair! Beautifully coiffed and smooth brushed out roller set. Isn't it magical what rollers and back combing can do?

And while we would never describe Betty as the sporty type, she definitely has always shown us how to stylishly look like we might play a sport. Who knew a bun could be sporty?

Remember when the Drapers took a trip to Italy and Betty went all 60’s Euro chic on us? If you look a bit closer, you’ll spot a bow within a bow. Yep, its pretty genius.

Always knowing when to keep things very classy, Betty opted for a side swept updo topped with a golden brooch for Rogers daughters wedding.

And if you ever cared to know what an old-school wash and set looked like… Women would get this done at least once every week or two to keep that refined 50’s style.

By season 5, Betty Draper is Betty Francis and is trying to break free of her atypical looking housewife image by dyeing her hair a darker shade. As soon she comes through the door her oldest son Bobby see’s her and yells, “You look ugly”. Bobby might’ve been harsh, but he’s right. It was awful.

Luckily she listened to the kid, relaxed and went back to her right shade. Even better she is opted for a relaxed curl.

Now, season 7 has rolled in with bright colors and a glorious bouffant hairdo. Gotta wonder what fashion heights Mrs.Francis will be taking us to this season!

And just for fun...remember that time Betty shot some birds in her backyard?

Hey, every girl's gotta have her bad ass moment!

PLAY TIME: BRAIDS!

WE LOVE A GOOD PLAY TIME!

One of the great things about being at Morphic is we get the chance to experiment with hair A LOT.

Usually play time means that Mishi cons another team member into her chair, so we felt so lucky when our friend Lauren (and her fabulous platinum hair!) came by for a marathon braiding session!

We were inspired by warrior braids, and tested out a few twists on the classic cornrow and fishtail braids. We had so much fun trying something new! And we loved how these hard-core looks played off the sweet lace on her shirt!

Are you ready to try a funky braid look yet?

ALL THE COLORS OF THE Rainbow!

Fun & FUNKY!

I’m always happy to create fun looks with edgy cuts and funky colors.  Annie Bacon’s hairstyle is a recent favorite.  She is one of those clients that can’t be given straight-forward hair.  When I saw her recently for a color refresh, she said, “I have concluded that the mullet is simply the best haircut for me at this time in my life.”

The cut is inspired by the South African band Die Antwoord lead singer/rapper Yolandi Visser.  The color was inspired by a recent Glamour spread about rainbow colored hair.

MISHI's 2014 Prediction

Hello Gorgeous!

As we enter a new year, I have been thinking about trends, forecasting, and what's to come in 2014.

My biggest hair prediction is that this is the year for brunettes going blonde.

Thanks to hair icon and superstar Kim Kardashian everybody is thinking, "Hmmm... should I do it?"  Many of them must be saying yes, because I have noticed an influx of new and old clients asking for the Kim Kardashian look!

I think most people have come around to liking her hair more and more.  Recently I have found that I can't help but like her, and this is mainly because I love her hair! I love recreating this look on my clientele.

If you are thinking about going blonde and want to do a Kim look, ombre is your best bet.  With ombre, 80-100% of your hair is highlighted, so that each strand transitions to blonde on the bottom.  That kind of coverage takes a decent amount of time!

Because of the extensive highlights, your hair will need toned and conditioned—in other words you'll need "the works". This will balance out any tones that've gone too warm, and really replace some of the moisture lost in the highlighting process.

Keep in mind that this dramatic ombre look can take up to three times to process to get the amount of lightness you are going for. We want to take things slow and gentle to keep your hair as healthy as possible. It's worth it!

We will agree on a treatment plan from the beginning so you know exactly what we're getting into! We'll work in toner/gloss, deep conditioning, and an update to your haircare regime to keep things supple, making sure you know exactly how to invest in your hair's health!

Life is too short to not have the hair of your dreams, so call me or book your appointment online today! Here's to great hair in 2014!

xo,
Mishi
